Please check the size of your receiver by measuring across the opening to make sure you ordered the correct hitch cover size. A 2" hitch cover will fit into a 2-1/2" receiver but the pin alignment is 3/8" off. It sound like you have a 2-1/2" receiver and ordered a 2" hitch cover. Contact us so we can replace it with the correct size.
Yes, the quick release detent can be removed by pressing both sides of the detent in and removing it. Then a standard 5/8" hitch pin can be inserted and secured.
